FAQs

Can I Bring My Dog to the Park?
Yes, your dog is welcome on leash. For more information, please read Santa Monica's park rules. Please clean up after your dog, and keep your dog out of the planted areas and water features.

Can I purchase and dedicate a park bench?
Yes!  A limited number of benches at Tongva Park and Ken Genser Square are available. Please see the Support page for more information or call 310-458-8310.

When did the parks open?
The parks officially opened to the public in Fall 2013.

Who designed the parks?
The City of Santa Monica worked with a design/build team of experts led by James Corner Field Operations. For more information on design and construction, please visit the Civic Center Parks Project Archive

What is there to do in the parks?
Through creative use of space, the parks accommodate many uses. There's space for active recreation like walking or running on the paths; space for kids to play at the children's play area; space for picnics under shady trees and at Gathering Hill; space for free cultural performances produced by the City's Cultural Affairs Division; plenty of spots for photo ops like the overlooks at Observation Hill; and space for reading and relaxation located throughout.

How can I find out more about the plants in the park?
We are very proud of our native and locally-appropriate drought-tolerant plant palette! Visit the Plant Life page to view the wide variety of grasses, shrubs, perennials, trees, and bulbs found throughout the park.
